I have spent many years in the motor trade, starting in cars as a customer meet and greet, working my way up the ladder to management. I then moved into light commercial vehicles, starting in sales and progressing to fleet sales executive and sales controller. Next, I moved into Heavy goods vehicle sales again, working my way to sales management and managing four sales sites.
I then had the urge to own my own company, so I started with a used van doing vehicle reconditioning. I quickly moved to a unit and a van, where I regularly worked on all sorts of vehicles. All the way along my motor trade journey, I have kept up to date with regulatory and compliance needs, also dealing with funding and rental schemes.
Having learnt so much about the industry, I felt it was time to share my knowledge, and the best way for me to do this was to write a book or move into fleet management, which is what I enjoy doing currently. (One day I might write the book too).
I would be keen to become a board member to help drive the Association of Fleet Professionals’ growth and help others on a similar journey. There are lots of twists and turns in the industry, from changes in legislation to innovative vehicles, monitoring and beyond.
The list is ever changing, and Associations like the AFP bring like-minded people together to solve problems in our demanding roles. We all can benefit from some support from like-minded colleagues at some point in our careers. I am knowledgeable, I may not have all the answers, but I sure will find it!
