My Name is Nick Evans. I have worked in and around the motor industry and engineering for most of my professional life. After working in the family engineering business for many years, I became involved with fleet vehicles working with the Renault group, gaining first-hand insight to the fleet and multi-vehicle industry. More recently I have dedicated my time to growing my company, DriveCommander and more recently, Driven2Distraction.
DriveCommander is a software based solution that prevents drivers using their phones illegally while driving, through managed access applications, rather than simple blocking. The system can be used by all drivers, but is a commercial solution for any company that has drivers on the road, in any number or capacity.
More recently, I have set up a CIC called Driven2Distraction that aims to deliver safety programmes and training to drivers to highlight the dangers of distracted driving. Primarily, this is for younger and new drivers, but it will also be essential training for any company with drivers on the road. We also have as a director, Junior Sullivan, a serving Army Officer whose parents were tragically killed by a lorry driver who was using his phone and hit their car.
Also, my own experience with distracted driving stems from an incident where my son and his mother were hit by an HGV on the M1 and again, the driver was using his phone at the time. Luckily, they were unharmed, but the outcome could have been very different. I am also a part-time racing driver and take part in events on circuits across the UK and mainland Europe.
I would like to apply to be on the AFP board to bring my many years of experience in the industry. My whole working life focus is on safety on our roads, and I will do anything I can to help bring about a safer driving environment. I have worked with fleets in the past and am regularly in contact with several fleet management companies in an effort to improve their safety systems.
